BMW 5-Series vs Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Considering a BMW 5 Series? See How it Stacks up to the Competition

At Tom Bush BMW Orange Park, we know you have a lot of options when shopping for a new car in the greater Gainesville area. But, with world-renowned class, sophistication, and unbeatable style, we can't think of a better option than our BMW 5 Series sedan.

The new BMW 5 Series models we have in stock are prestigious, refined, and meticulously crafted. Seating for five, a cavernous trunk for cargo, and the latest tech and safety features are all standard for this high-end sedan, and we'd be hard pressed to think of a reason why you would want to choose another model.

But, if you do find yourself torn between the world-class appeal of the 5 Series and a competing model from another carmaker, we can help you make your decision. We've researched our BMW sedans against some of its top competitors, to illustrate for our customers throughout the greater Jacksonville and Orange Park area what makes the BMW stand out in any comparison.

The BMW 5 Series vs. the Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Mercedes-Benz is one such competing carmaker, with their similarly-sized E-Class sedans. On the surface, these two luxury models have a lot in common. They're priced nearly the same, they're sized nearly the same (although the BMW is slightly larger, wider, and taller), and they both have high standards for interior luxury and comfort.

Once you delve a little further, however, you'll find, as we did, that the BMW 5 Series has a lot more going for it, and a few key elements that help recommend it over the Mercedes-Benz.

  • Hybrid option. If you love luxury, but you'd like the efficiency of an innovative hybrid at the same time, the BMW is the only way to go. It has a state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid trim level in its lineup, while the E-Class has no hybrid option. Get 259 horsepower and an estimated 29 mpg with the BMW 530e iPerformance, which is also available with the BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system.
  • Cargo capacity. The BMW 5 Series shines in its class when it comes to trunk space, with 14.5 cubic feet. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class, on the other hand, pales in comparison to the BMW, and most other competitors as well, with just 13 cubic feet.
  • Efficiency and range. Sure, the hybrid BMW 5 Series offers better fuel efficiency than the E-Class. But, you don't have to get the hybrid to get better fuel range and economy than the Mercedes-Benz, because even the gas-powered base engine does better in testing. The BMW averages 27 mpg combined and goes around 432 miles in the city and 612 miles on the highway per fill up. Meanwhile, the E-Class averages around 25 mpg combined, and goes 365 miles in the city and 522 miles on the highway per tank of gas.
  • Standard features. Both models have base trims that are nicely equipped with features, but Middleburg, FL drivers will find the BMW 5 Series sedan has a few extra safety features standard that are only optional on the Mercedes-Benz as a part of add-on packages. Standard safety features to be on the lookout on the BMW include rear cross traffic alert, forward collision and mitigation, and blind spot monitoring.
