Our team will be able to determine whether your key needs a replacement battery, re-programmed to your vehicle, or if a replacement key is needed. Since keys are a security-sensitive component of your vehicle — only the registered owner can order a replacement key from Tom Bush BMW. In order to do so, Tom Bush BMW will require proof of vehicle ownership and identity with original documents.

Here’s what you need to do:

1. Visit either Tom Bush BMW location to order a new key fob
2. To order a new key fob we will need the following:
   • The current registered owner must be present with a valid driver's license
   • Current vehicle registration
   • All documents must match exactly (name, address, etc.)
   • Payment in full (Coded parts can not be cancelled and are not returnable)
3. What if the registered owner is not available to pick up the key fob?
   When the registered owner orders a BMW key fob, they may indicate the name(s) of the individual(s) authorized to pick-up the key fob. The authorized individual(s) will also need to provide a government-issued identity card (for example, a driver's license) at the time of pick-up. 

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Should your key simply need a battery, the replacement process could take as little as 15 minutes. Depending on the model of your vehicle and the specific type of key, our parts department may need to order a replacement requiring a wait time of a few days. We welcome you to schedule an appointment at your convenience. Costs will also vary depending on the type of key that you have.

As part of the process, our team may need to test the remote and mechanical key functions. In order to do so, the dealer will need access to your vehicle — either in-person at Tom Bush BMW or at the location of the vehicle. This process may be subject to an additional service charge which will be documented on the Repair Order.
