BMW X7 vs Mercedes-Benz GLS

The Competition Can't Match the All-New BMW X7

It's been a long time coming, but the BMW X7 has finally arrived in Jacksonville. Though the initial announcement surfaced back in March of 2014, BMW didn't officially unveil the all-new three-row luxury SUV to the public until October of 2018. Ever a patient bunch, BMW fans can finally get their hands on the flagship X7, right here at Tom Bush BMW Orange Park.

With its powerful engine, pristinely adorned interior, and BMW's legendary ride quality, the BMW X7 confidently stands up against competition from already established models like the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class. Dating back to 2013, the GLS-Class has had time to build quite the reputation, but can it compare to the all-new X7? Our biased answer is, of course, "no," but you don't have to take our word for it.

Comparing the All-New BMW X7 to the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class near Gainesville

There are several aspects to consider when comparing SUV's in general, but when comparing luxury brands, you'll first want to look at the standard feature sets. If you are already paying more for the luxury experience, it's nice to know you're getting your money's worth. The Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class is a worthy competitor, but, it is starting to show its age. This is especially true when you look at the standard features.

  • From a safety perspective, both models are admirably equipped with standard pre-collision systems, but the BMW X7 adds a Blind Spot and Lane Departure Warnings Accident Avoidance System on its base model. You can get this on the GLS-Class, but you'll have to shell out a lot more money.
  • Technology-wise, the GLS-Class lags behind, while the BMW X7 offers a premium experience out of the box. BMW's iDrive infotainment system is intuitive and lag-free, with lots of features and support for Apple CarPlay. You even get a navigation system at no extra cost. Meanwhile, the GLS-Class suffers from an infotainment system that is best described as dated. You can get both Apple CarPlay and a navigation system, but only by adding an available premium package.
  • You can't talk about luxury SUVs without mentioning comfort. The BMW X7 boasts greater measurements in both front shoulder room and front head room, while both the driver and passenger can dial in their perfect position with 12-way power adjustable seats. The GLS-Class allows for 10-way adjustment of the driver seat, but the passenger seat is only 8-way. It's also worth mentioning that hands-free entry is standard on the BMW X7, and only available on higher trim levels of the GLS-Class.
